The course modules offer the basic foundations of discipline-specific laboratory research questions and how these can be applied to broader clinical applications. The main focus is for the student to establish an appreciation that fundamental scientific questions may have multidisciplinary clinical answers. In the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences the MPhil may be undertaken in the principal areas of research offered by the faculty. Students will be required to conduct a prescribed program of research under direct supervision of a member of the academic staff. The supervisor, in consultation with the candidate, is responsible for developing the research program to be followed by the candidate and for reporting at regular intervals on the candidate's progress. The MPhil requires the candidate to submit a thesis which may include published work directly relevant to the argument of the thesis, provided such work has been written during the period of candidature and has not been presented for any other degree or diploma at this university of any other institution.</p> <p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Career opportunities</strong></p> <p style="text-align:justify;">Students who have completed the course will demonstrate a thorough understanding of relevant research techniques in their field through a review of the relevant literature. They will demonstrate their ability, under supervision to apply relevant research techniques to their chosen field of study. Students will be able to present high-quality written work suitable for publication in appropriate scholarly journals, and be able to critically evaluate both their own and others' written work in their chosen field.</p> <p style="text-align:justify;">Enrolment in a Master of Philosophy involves the independent investigation of a research problem that has been formulated by the student. It is expected that the research undertaken will make a contribution to the discipline in which the student is enrolled by applying, clarifying, critiquing or interpreting that knowledge. Candidates undertake a research project under the direct supervision of a member of the academic staff. The work undertaken as part of this research degree must constitute a significant contribution to the knowledge and understanding of a field of study of direct concern to the faculty, and must demonstrate the capacity of the candidate to carry out independent research. The Master of Reproductive Science provides medical and health professionals with advanced theoretical understanding and research training in the applications of reproductive biology, including emerging biotechnologies, to clinical human and veterinary medicine. Research may be undertaken in areas of human reproduction, animal reproduction, women's health, fetal and neonatal physiology, embryology, molecular and cellular endocrinology and reproductive toxicology.</p> <p style="text-align:justify;">Enrolment in a research master's degree involves the independent investigation of a research problem that has been formulated by the student. It is expected that the research undertaken will make a contribution to the knowledge and understanding of the chosen discipline by applying, clarifying, critiquing or interpreting that knowledge. Students are supported by a minimum of two supervisors throughout their enrolment.</p> <p style="text-align:justify;">The course provides advanced theoretical understanding and research training in the applications and principles of reproductive biology and medicine, including emerging biotechnologies, to clinical human and veterinary medicine. It also offers knowledge and understanding of recent advances in reproductive technologies and their implications for professionals in various fields.</p> <p style="text-align:justify;">Graduates obtain suitable training for those concerned with:</p> <ul style="text-align:justify;"><li>research and development projects involving reproduction</li> <li>IVF programs</li> <li>medical and paramedical areas</li> <li>development and implementation of policy on reproductive and population issues</li> <li>developing areas of agriculture and veterinary science where skills in new reproductive technologies are assuming considerable importance</li> <li>biological areas such as wildlife conservation, pest control and preservation of endangered species.</li> </ul><p style="text-align:justify;">This course is offered by the Education Program in Reproduction and Development within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. Students graduate with practical and theoretical knowledge and skills in communication, teamwork, critical thinking, innovation, and cross-cultural and international awareness. They are highly sought after and can choose a range of interesting and dynamic career pathways.</p> <p style="text-align:justify;"> </p> <p style="text-align:justify;">Students can choose to undertake two eight-unit majors, or a major and minor, in these disciplines: Addiction Studies, Environmental Management, Health Promotion, Nutrition, Occupational Safety and Health.
